It’s been 11 days since I tore 2 ligaments in my ankle.

Today I went outside!!! Into the real world, with real people and real interactions that didn’t involve my physio! Yay! Being inside, with my foot up has seriously been messing with my chi. Today I managed with just one crutch, so I’ll see how that went later this evening with the swelling.

Yesterday, for #flashbackfriday on Instagram I posted this picture of my brother & I with our Dad in 1986. It was during the 2 years we travelled around Australia in our caravan.
I was ‘home schooled’ but basically the ‘school of nature’ was my teacher!
During these 2 years I did an Indigenous Walkabout, I ate snake and other weird foods, I went on a crocodile hunt, rode camels in the desert, caught game fish all up the western Australian coast, learnt how to cook what we caught or hunted, met a myriad of people from all walks of life and had the most amazing experiences that I still think back on today.

Looking back, it was probably the best thing my parents ever did for me.

I also received some Instagram prints in the mail from Social PS. These are going on my fridge!

We (I really mean Jay) washed our filthy hound.

Saturday

After running early errands we went to brunch in Glebe.
Delicious.

Then to the park to give Harley a run with the frisbee. Jay’s been teaching him to catch it on the fly; he’s doing so well! He caught 5 in mid-air today!IMG_20130831_133203

The Sydney weather has been perfection. Today, the official last day of winter, was mid-20°Cs, sun shining and just beautiful. We got home about mid-afternoon and spent some quality time on the balcony in the sunshine.

After all these pictures of alcohol…..let’s drop a gear and talk about my brother…

He’s been doing well in rehab. It’s officially 5 weeks, so next weekend he’ll be able to make phone-calls on Saturdays.

We’ve been regularly getting 2 letters a week. It’s been really interesting and encouraging to see his progress through his written word. For the first few weeks there was this desperation in his writing; constantly fretting and worrying about ‘things‘; minor things like wanting money for cigarettes, lollies & chocolate, postage stamps, etc. But over the last few weeks there has been clarity in his thoughts and a lot more honesty and a lot less fretting over ‘stuff’.

He’s in for a full 12 months, so it’s going to be a long, tough road, but for the first time I’m actually feeling confident that this just might work.

Anyway, I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend.
We’ve ordered Lebanese for dinner, which should be arriving any moment!
We’re going to eat baba gannouche, felafel, tabouli & fried cauliflower and watch Robert De Niro & John Travolta in ‘Killing Season’ on DVD.

Namaste my lovely peeps,

  1. My thoughts are with your brother. 12 mths is certainly a long time. What a great experience you had as a youngster… travelling about.

PS. Glad you’re (sort of) able to get out and about again!
