12WBT round 3 | blogging challenge #one

Many of the 12WBT twitter-ers have been taking part in a weekly blogging challenge during the Rounds. Being my first Round, I agreed to do it too but I’ve been a little slack & am running behind. So this is the first week’s challenge…

1. Describe yourself in 25 words or less. You can get straight to the point – or bring your creativity into play.
melissa williams [aka melly] was born in the Australian Sunshine State but classifies herself as a New South Welshwoman, gets lost in book stores, regularly indulges in celluloid reality, loves to whip up gourmet meals in the kitchen, swears that one day she will learn to speak German properly, adores candles and fresh flowers, married her high school sweetheart, fears an apocalyptic rage-virus, regularly spoils her cavoodle Harley, loves walking along the harbour, is decorated with ink, seasonally switches between blonde and brunette, has soul-mates, favours painted nails & dangly earrings, always orders the crème brûlée, is obsessed with vampires & zombies, detests creepy-crawlies & people who take too long to order coffee, makes up crazy dances for her devilishly handsome husband, believes in good, would always be dressed in Lanvin, Balmain, Sass&Bide if she could, loves the smell of rain & evening jasmine, is addicted to the internet, is always on the hunt for a really good long black, is James Taylor’s biggest fan, dreams every night, would hate a world without French bubbles, adores Pantone 1765, almost always wishes she was lying on the sand in the sun, is a 12WBT convert and although she is a hopeless Francophile she will forever be smitten with Sydney.

2. What brings you to 12wbt? Getting fitter? Losing weight? (Gaining weight??) Are you first timer, a repeat offender??
All the way throughout school I was a sportswoman – years 10-12 I was captain of the school Sports House Akira (or Blue). I represented NSW at Basketball, I went to State trials twice for Swimming (Backstroke and Freestyle) and regularly did biathlons with my friends. I swam year round 6-8kms a day. Then highschool was over, I went to uni for a year and started clubbing. I still played basketball in a college comp once a week but basically little sport too much drinking and eating junk food. Then I moved to Sydney to work and suddenly I had my own money; I ate out all the time as well as partying, this just allowed the weight to pile on. I didn’t really notice it for a long time. But when I did I didn’t really do anything about it. However, like every upcoming Bride, I lost 15kgs for my wedding, and then managed to put them back on over the past 6 years. So basically I adore food and I’ve been lazy for more than a decade.

3. Why do you blog??
Like every blogger (whether they admit it or not) I like the sound of my own voice. Well, not voice, but you know what I mean! I enjoy having a creative outlet where I can just spew my thoughts. I don’t really think about whether people will actually like what I write or not. I just put random stuff out there because I am slightly weird!

4. Who is your biggest inspiration in life and why (doesn’t have to be weight loss)
I don’t really have just one person who I look to for inspiration. I find that I am inspired by various people in various areas of life (work, fitness, fashion, cooking, etc). Examples are Michelle Bridges who is just mindblowingly amazing in her health & fitness methodology and her understanding of fat unmotivated unfit people. The girls in my team at work keep me inspired since I’m competitive and I am motivated in the workplace by recognition. My husband inspires me to not spend money frivolously & keep an even keel…not let my psycho addicted family traits overtake me emotionally.

5. What things in life bring you the most joy?
Being with people who I love. Playing in the park with Harley, glass of wine in hand listening to James Taylor & cooking, seeing Jay first thing in the morning & last thing at night (and every time in between!), watching movies at the cinema, playing piano, getting a mani/pedi, having a clean house, fresh flowers on my table, driving in the car with the sunroof open and the music pumping, the smell of cut grass & the ocean, seeing the lights of Sydney city at night, a big belly laugh, curling up under the doona with a good book & all the time in the world.

6.What do you think your greatest challenge is going to be this round?
Learning to control my eating; portion & snacking control.

7. What are you most excited about 12wbt?
Getting fitter & stronger so that I can run! Losing weight.

8. And what scares the pants off you?
In general what scares the pants off me is something bad happening to Jay. For 12WBT its the thought of getting seriously injured so that I can’t exercise.

9. Tell me – right now – today – how do you feel about exercise in no more than 10 words
love it – makes me feel great once it’s done!

10. Complete this sentence – in 12 weeks time – on the last day of 12wbt I am going to be feeling goddamn proud of myself!
