a ball for brainwave

I’ve been busy the last few days and haven’t had time to blog! Shock & horror!

I had very good reason though and here I want to share the photo evidence of the little soiree Jay & I attended on Saturday night.

Brainwave is an Australian charity which provides financial and emotional support for kids with brain illnesses and their families.

Each year a gala night is held to raise money (and in my case, awareness) of the organisation. This year the theme was Buenos Aires Tango Club and it was held in the grande ballroom at The Westin, Martin Place.

The dress was formal black tie and one of the  MC’s was former CNN and current Channel 10 reporter Hugh Riminton. Special Guest Speaker was former Wallabies captain George Gregan who is a Brainwave patron.

My work bought a table of 10 (for 5 top performing staff and their partners) and Jay & I were lucky enough to be invited!

My handsome husband hired a tuxedo for the evening. I love the black tie as opposed to the black bow-tie. I am still seriously confounded by some of the liberal interpretations of ‘black tie‘ I witnessed at the event (I don’t know anywhere that grey suit & pink shirt constitutes for black tie….). I bought a new dress and shoes for the night; Leona Edmiston dress and Wittner platform leather wedges which I wore with a sequined French Connection shrug and I busted out my precious Balenciaga earrings and bracelet set that my hubby bought me as a pre-wedding present! We felt very glammed up indeed!

The ballroom was beautifully and minimally decorated.

Our fellow table guests & my work colleagues were:

Ursula and MSI Field manager Martin
HR manager Michelle and Brett
Judy (on a break from maternity leave) and hubby Mark
great Scot! (Judy & Mark)
Fernando and Marketing manager Vickey

The main entertainment for the evening was a fantastic trio of Spanish dancers who performed a sultry 3-dance Tango….you can’t really see them but they were sexy!

The food was really nice although I didn’t really like the dessert.

one of the sponsors; Hunter Valley wine Polin and Polin

goat's cheese & beetroot tart with candied walnuts
Filet of beef with potato gratin
rhubarb crumble
sponsor Ferrero Rocher and after dinner coffee

There was almost 350 people and the evening raised almost $100,000 for the wonderful cause.

Vickey and Fernando won one of the raffle prizes; a printer!

After all the auctions and speeches, we danced til about midnight and then left for a drink at the new Hilton Zeta Bar.

Mel & Jay - a little worse for wear....
